About Trevor

Trevor Wingrove played for the Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse Association for twelve years from 1972 to 1983. This included two years of Mini Tyke starting at the tender age of four and Divisions One through Ten, as they were once named.

Trevor was fortunate to play at the top level through those ten divisions and he won gold medals at seven BC Championships and silver in the other three. Trevor was well respected as a referee and coach in the Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse Association and believed in giving back to minor lacrosse.

The CMLA honoured him in 1983 by awarding him the Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse Association Lacrosse Boy which was presented with the criteria of outstanding play and contributions to the CMLA.

Trevor went on to play a year of Intermediate A where he won another B.C. Championship. He then moved up for four years of Junior A lacrosse with the Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs—his team won a BC Championship and played in two Minto Cups. As a junior, Trevor also played in the 1988 Mann Cup with the Coquitlam Adanacs.

Trevor finished his Junior A lacrosse career having played in 104 regular season games with 100 goals and 245 assists for 345 points which remains fourth in the all time Junior Adanacs regular season stats.

In the early days of field lacrosse scholarships, Trevor also attended Whittier College in Whittier, California where he won a Western Collegiate Lacrosse League Championship and was named to the First All-Star Team.

In 1989 Trevor was a first round draft pick of the Coquitlam Adanacs where he accumulated many honours at the Senior level.  Trevor’s lacrosse career was cut short when he severed his Achilles tendon in the 1993 Mann Cup.  During his shortened Senior A career he played in two Mann Cups and was honoured by his team and the WLA.

Trevor established a very successful career at the City of Coquitlam where he rose from being a summer employee in the Water Department to the General Manager of Corporate Services.

Trevor truly loved the game of lacrosse and it set the tone for a very successful but shortened life. It was lacrosse that taught him the values of team play, work ethic, and trying your best to succeed. The Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse Association was the start of that process and Trevor cherished his memories there. Trevor passed away in 2010 and will be forever missed by his family, friends, co-workers, and teammates.

Since Trevor's passing he has been honoured by the following events:

  • Junior Adanacs won the 2010 Minto Cup wearing TW23 patches in his memory

  • Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse re-named the prestigious Dogwood Tournament the Trevor Wingrove Memorial Tournament

  • Establishment of the Trevor Wingrove Bursary Fund which awards an annual bursary to a player who has played in Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse

  • Trevor's #23 uniform was retired and a banner was raised by the Coquitlam Junior Adanacs on June 5, 2013. This is the highest honour a team can give a player.

  • On January 14, 2014, the City of Coquitlam also bestowed a special honour to Trevor.  To recognize his service and numerous contributions to the community, the street that intersects Town Centre Park was re-named Trevor Wingrove Way.
